How to Find a Transcript on YouTube
Before you can use our word counter, you'll need the video transcript. YouTube provides transcripts for many videos, either automatically generated or manually added by the creator. Here's how to access them:
Open the YouTube Video: Navigate to the YouTube video you want to analyze in your web browser.
Look for the Options Menu: Below the video player, next to the "Like," "Dislike," and "Share" buttons, you'll often see a "..." (More actions) icon or a "Show transcript" button directly.
Click "Show transcript": If you see a "Show transcript" button, click it. If not, click the "..." icon and look for "Show transcript" or "Open transcript" in the dropdown menu.
Copy the Transcript: A panel will appear (usually on the right side of the video) displaying the full video transcript, often with timestamps. Carefully select and copy all the text from this transcript panel.
Pro Tip: If the transcript panel doesn't appear or is not visible, try expanding the video description first. YouTube sometimes hides the "Show transcript" option within the expanded description.
